Travel can look and feel different while grieving the death of someone important or living with a life-limiting illness. For some widows and widowers, it may mean travelling on their own for the first time. For others, it could mean joining a group tour, travelling with friends or family, returning to a meaningful destination, or planning a trip to honour or remember someone who has died.
Join Chilliwack Hospice Society for a practical and supportive presentation about preparing for travel when life’s journey has changed. Guest speakers Gloria Adams, bus tour coordinator with Chilliwack & District Seniors Resources Society, and Claire Banman, owner and senior travel consultant at South East Travel, will share information and practical considerations to help you plan with your own needs, comfort and circumstances in mind.
Topics will include:
  • First-time solo travel, group tours and other ways to travel with support
  • Choosing a destination and planning a trip that feels meaningful to you
  • Travelling with cremated remains (ashes)
  • Travelling with a life-limiting illness, medical needs or mobility challenges
  • Giving yourself permission to rest, change plans or skip an activity
  • Navigating grief, memories, sadness or guilt that may arise during a trip
Sometimes travelling well means giving yourself permission to change course. A meaningful trip might retrace familiar ground, follow a path someone important to you hoped to travel, or chart a course somewhere entirely new. Alongside the practical things you pack, you may also carry memories, grief, uncertainty and changing expectations. This presentation offers information and perspectives to help you chart a journey that leaves room to rest, adapt your plans and decide what travelling well means for you.
