May 5 to 11, 2024 marks National Hospice Palliative Care Week in Canada. Led by the Canadian Hospice Palliative Care Association (CHPCA), organizations across the country including Chilliwack Hospice Society are reminding their communities that “palliative care is for you,” too.

Wherever you are — whether in hospice, at home, in long-term care, or in the hospital — palliative care can help you to live as well as you can through a life-limiting illness. Your illness affects many parts of your life. Palliative care can support you with your pain and other symptoms, your emotional and mental health, your spiritual well-being, and/or your practical needs for daily life.

Serious illnesses have or will affect us all. Palliative care is there to support everyone affected by someone’s illness, from patients to caregivers and loved ones. Palliative care helps those who care for you while you are sick and those who care about you. If your illness leads to death, it also supports your loved ones with their grief.

Join Chilliwack Hospice Society in spreading the word that palliative care is for you and for everyone. We all deserve compassionate support and care when serious illness affects our lives.

Talking about palliative care can be hard, but it doesn’t have to be complicated. That’s why CHPCA created these three info sheets to help everyone understand what hospice palliative care is, when palliative care can help, and where it can be found.
