These funds represent the incredible compassion of BC Public Service employees who chose to support our organization during the 2025 PECSF campaign, and we are deeply grateful.

PECSF is the BC Public Service’s employee-led workplace giving program, and since 1965, it has helped raise over $50 million for charities across the province. We are honoured to be a current donor choice charity and to be among the many organizations empowered by this meaningful initiative.

During the 2024 campaign, 6,191 donors from across B.C. contributed more than $2.63 million through PECSF — an extraordinary accomplishment made possible by the dedication of more than 1,000 volunteers who canvassed, coordinated, and championed the cause within their workplaces.

The portion of these funds directed to Chilliwack Hospice Society helps us provide compassionate care and free support services to individuals and families in our community who are impacted by dying, death, and grief. Every donation makes a difference — helping us continue to offer programs for children, youth, and adults, from one-on-one grief support to community education and hospice volunteer training.

We are incredibly thankful to the employees who chose to support our work through PECSF, and to the volunteers who made it all possible. Your care and community spirit are making a real impact right here in Chilliwack.

To our friends in the BC Public Service: if you are considering supporting us through the PECSF program, we invite you to select Chilliwack Hospice Society as your charity of choice. Your donations directly support people in our community when they need it most.

At Chilliwack Hospice Society, small comforts can make a big difference. Through a generous $1,500 grant from the Chilliwack Foundation in fall 2024, the Society recently purchased and installed new fridges at both its main office on Vedder Road and at Thrifty Boutique, the Society’s social enterprise thrift store. These upgrades are already making a meaningful impact — both for people navigating grief and for the volunteers who give their time so generously.

At Chilliwack Hospice Society, the new fridge enhances the experience of participants in grief support groups by making it easier to prepare and share meals. Whether it’s a pot of soup, a tray of sandwiches, or snacks and refreshments after a support session, food often plays a quiet but powerful role in creating connection and comfort.

“Grief can feel incredibly isolating, but when people gather to cook or share a meal, it becomes easier to talk, to listen, and to simply be together,” said Sue Knott, Executive Director of Chilliwack Hospice Society. “These fridges may seem like a small upgrade, but it has already deepened the sense of community and care we strive to create in every one of our free programs.”

One program already benefiting is the Men’s Cooking Group, held the last Saturday of each month from 5–7:00pm. Open to men who are grieving the death of someone in their lives, this casual, confidential evening of cooking and conversation invites participants to connect with others who are on their own grief journey. Whether you’re an experienced cook or looking to learn new skills, you’re welcome. To join the men’s cooking group or learn more, contact Lucy Fraser, MSW, Director of Programs, at (604) 795-4660 or lucy@chilliwackhospice.org.

The fridge at Thrifty Boutique, located at #101–7955 Evans Road, was purchased specifically for volunteer use. Volunteers play a vital role in the Boutique’s daily operations — from sorting donations and merchandising to assisting shoppers. With a dedicated space to store lunches, beverages, and treats, the new fridge is helping make their time at the store more enjoyable and comfortable.

Chilliwack Hospice Society extends heartfelt thanks to the Distribution Committee of the Chilliwack Foundation for making these purchases possible and for its ongoing support of the Society’s work over the years.

The refreshed look features a modern logo, updated fonts, and an elegant colour palette that reflects the Boutique’s reputation for quality and its role in supporting Chilliwack Hospice Society.

At the centre of Thrifty Boutique’s new look is a whimsical clothing hanger, drawn in a continuous line style. This design choice captures the essence of thrifting—reusing, recycling, and sustainability—while aligning with modern design trends.

Beneath the hanger, the words “Thrifty Boutique” are placed in a supportive position under “supporting Chilliwack Hospice Society,” emphasizing the Boutique’s essential role as the Society’s primary source of funding. An arc element mirrors the design of the new Chilliwack Hospice Society logo, creating visual harmony between the two brands and reinforcing the connection between shopping at the Boutique and supporting compassionate care in the community.

An Elevated Thrifting Experience

The Boutique’s new identity is designed to enhance its appeal to a broad audience, from thrifting enthusiasts to those new to second-hand shopping. By combining style with purpose, Thrifty Boutique creates an inviting space where every purchase contributes to vital grief and palliative care programs in the community.

“Thrifty Boutique is more than a thrift store—it’s a destination for those seeking stylish, affordable finds in a welcoming and upscale environment,” says Sue Knott, Executive Director of Chilliwack Hospice Society. “Our new look reflects the quality of the experience shoppers have come to expect and highlights the critical role the Boutique plays in funding our programs.”

The Boutique has been in business for 15 years and is frequently recognized as ‘Best Thrift Store’ by The Chilliwack Progress A-List. By offering a curated selection of new and preloved items—ranging from home décor, clothing, jewellery, and kitchen supplies to small appliances, books, games, children’s toys, and electronics—the Boutique ensures a unique shopping experience for everyone.

A Record-Breaking Year of Growth

In the past fiscal year, the Boutique achieved record-breaking sales with over 341,000 items purchased. This growth was made possible thanks to a dedicated team of more than 145 volunteers and eight employees who processed donations from over 11,000 generous community members.

“The record-breaking year we’ve had is a testament to the amazing support we receive from the Chilliwack community,” says Sandy Parker, Store Manager. “From our incredible volunteers and staff to the generosity of those who donate and shop with us, every single person contributes to our success. It’s rewarding to see how the Boutique not only raises essential funds for Chilliwack Hospice Society but also creates a meaningful impact in the community.”

A Leader in Sustainability

Thrifty Boutique is not only a business success but also a leader in environmental responsibility. By recycling over 144,000 lbs. of textiles last year, it actively reduces landfill waste and demonstrates a commitment to sustainability. The Boutique’s mission aligns with broader goals of social, economic, and environmental impact, ensuring a thriving and compassionate community.

A Fresh Colour Palette and Fonts

The updated brand identity introduces a sophisticated and calming colour palette:

Teal, the primary colour shared with Chilliwack Hospice Society, represents rejuvenation, creativity, and tranquility.

Blush adds a sense of warmth and elegance, while Merino, a soft neutral, creates a clean and polished aesthetic.

The new logo pairs two typefaces to create a distinct yet complementary feel:

DM Sans, a modern and accessible font used in Chilliwack Hospice Society’s new branding, ensures continuity and professionalism.

Céline, a clean and delicate typeface with a hint of playfulness, brings a boutique-inspired flair to the Thrifty Boutique’s materials.

A Local Collaboration

The new design was created in partnership with Camilla Coates of Ergo Design Group, a local graphic artist. Camilla’s thoughtful design process ensured that the Boutique’s refreshed branding aligns seamlessly with Chilliwack Hospice Society’s mission while giving the store its own unique identity.

Why This Matters

Thrifty Boutique plays a vital role in supporting the programs and services of Chilliwack Hospice Society, including grief counselling, palliative care support, and community education. By elevating its branding, the Boutique strengthens its connection to customers and encourages more people to shop with purpose.

“This rebrand is about more than aesthetics—it’s about building awareness and encouraging community engagement,” says Knott. “When you shop at the Thrifty Boutique, you’re directly supporting programs that help individuals and families navigate grief, dying, and death.”

At Chilliwack Hospice Society, we walk alongside individuals and families as they navigate the complexities of grief and the realities of death and dying. Through support, education, and programs that promote wellness and healthy grieving, we act as a trusted guide, offering resources, care, and compassion tailored to their needs. Our new logo, colour palette, and font encapsulate the heart of who we are and our mission to serve the Chilliwack community.

The Bridge: A Symbol of Connection and Healing

The new logo features the graceful arcs of a bridge—a meaningful symbol of connection, resilience, and transformation.

The lower arc, solid and enduring, represents the foundation we provide—strong, unwavering, and built to support the weight of grief and transition. This symbolizes the breadth of resources and services we offer, from grief counselling to community education to palliative care support.

The upper arc, composed of lighter segments, mirrors the unique, personal paths of those we serve. Grief is never linear; it takes unexpected turns and evolves over time. These arcs reflect each client’s journey and the compassionate care they receive as they move through grief and loss.

The parallel paths of the arcs illustrate how Chilliwack Hospice Society walks alongside its clients; ensuring our support and resources align with their individual needs at every step. This relationship creates a safe, supportive space where clients can find the strength and solace they need.

“Our logo reflects who we are and what we do; creating connections and providing steady support during some of life’s most difficult moments,” says Sue Knott, Executive Director of Chilliwack Hospice Society. “The bridge isn’t just a symbol; it represents the journey we take together.”

Centred on Grief and Hospice Palliative Care Support

This rebrand emphasizes the Society’s focus on grief support while continuing its long-standing hospice palliative care support programs. With the addition of “Centre for Grief Support” to our name, we make our purpose unmistakably clear. We are here for the Chilliwack community, offering a safe space and tailored support for adults, children, and youth coping with grief and loss. Services are available in the hospice, hospital, care facilities, and in people’s homes, ensuring dignity and care at every stage of life.

A Palette and Typeface for Calm and Clarity

The new colour palette features teal as its primary colour, a calming mix of blue and green that symbolizes hope, balance, and peace. Mint green complements this foundation with its soft, refreshing tones, representing growth and healing. Together, these colours create a sense of tranquility and renewal that aligns with the Society’s mission.

The DM Sans font is approachable, modern, and easy-to-read, reflecting our dedication to accessibility for all ages. Its clean and confident lines speak to our professional, compassionate approach while remaining welcoming and warm—a perfect complement to the stories of resilience and care our organization represents.

A New Look for the Thrifty Boutique

As part of the rebrand, the Chilliwack Hospice Society’s Thrifty Boutique is also unveiling a complementary new look. This refreshed design aligns with the Society’s updated branding and reflects the elevated thrifting experience that shoppers have come to expect. The boutique continues to play a vital role in supporting the Society’s programs and services through community generosity.

A Local Collaboration

The new look was brought to life in collaboration with local graphic artist Camilla Coates of Ergo Design Group. Her thoughtful and creative approach helped ensure the updated branding truly reflects the mission and values of Chilliwack Hospice Society.

Growing Together

This revitalized look is part of our broader strategy to reach more people, raise awareness about our services, and ensure inclusivity for all who seek our help. Our brand reflects not only who we are today but also where we are headed—toward a future where no one in our community faces grief or the end of life alone.

“This rebrand isn’t just about a new look; it’s about ensuring that everyone in Chilliwack knows they are not alone,” says Sue Knott. “Whether you’re grieving a death or navigating end-of-life care, we’re here to help.”

Sharing the Message

The bridge in our logo is not only symbolic but also a call to action. We invite you to cross that bridge, whether by accessing our services, sharing our message, or supporting our work. Together, we can foster a community where compassion, understanding, and healing flow freely, helping everyone navigate the challenges of grief and end-of-life with dignity and care.

Chilliwack Hospice Society is here for you, every step of the way. Let’s walk this path together.

You should be dancing! The 18th Annual Chilliwack Hospice Society Gala: DISCO, presented by Silver Creek Travel Centre, will be held Saturday night, September 23, at a new venue, The’í:tselíya — S.A.Y. Community Centre, and organizers say, “get ready to boogie.” This disco-infused, high-profile fundraising dinner, auction, and dance event will raise funds to support the bereavement and palliative care support programs and services Chilliwack Hospice Society provides free of cost to children, youth, and adults in Chilliwack and the surrounding communities.

Restaurant 62 will be catering a gourmet, plated dinner including red wine braised short rib with a rosemary djion braisage, local heirloom tomato and bocconcini salad, and roasted fall vegetables, followed by an apple verrine for dessert.

Keeping in theme, dancing will return to the annual gala with disc jockey Adam Kruger who will be spinning everyone’s favourite disco hits. Adam has performed at over 3,000 live events across the US and Canada.

Always a popular component of the event, the silent auction will be held online with bidding beginning on Sunday, September 17 at 3:00pm. This year’s auction is valued at over $15,000 and features some fabulous items including travel and accommodations, event tickets, family-friendly adventures, shopping parties, and many generous professional service packages. The silent auction will close at 10:30pm on the night of the gala.

Meanwhile, the live auction will be held exclusively for those in attendance at the gala and will be overseen by emcee and auctioneer Jason Lum, city councillor for the City of Chilliwack and chair of the Fraser Valley Regional District. Amid the unique items available for auction, the Chilliwack Hospice Society is assembling a ‘wine wall’ in a beautiful, refurbished cabinet. Organizers are currently accepting donations of store-bought wine with the goal of filling the cabinet with 100 bottles. Community members are encouraged to drop-off a bottle of their favourite wine at Chilliwack Hospice Society, 7112 Vedder Road, or the Garrison Wine & Liquor Store by September 20 to be included in this live auction highlight.
